**The Bell Curve**

I am yet to meet a normal person,

a person who is balanced and dancing

in the middle of all bell curves,

so today I am declaring that

I’m at variance with variance,

of the flat paper variety.

Despite what the doctor says,

bell curve normality

is a statistical anomaly

that could use a restrictive diet.

Do you know what happens when bell curves

meet for a drink on Friday night?

They merge salubrious-ly into 3d,

beer goggles aside,

spheres emerge, octopus like

with endless slender legs,

radiating

then

morphing into flesh and blood

human beings.

ps.

I retain the right to retract my variance

on meeting a normal person.

______________________________

Just in case you don’t know, the bell curve is the statistical normal distribution and variance is the measure of variation from the mean of the distribution. Those who vary too far from the mean are considered far from normal 😉

note: a repost

As a repost, it should ring a bell!

If you invert one of those you get a wineglass. Just needs a stem and base, which they no doubt develop when meeting for a drink. 🙂

for sure 😉 #dingding

What a delightful and fun poem to read this morning…I loved the morphing you describe…thanks for the smiles.

we all morph sometimes – thankyou Charles 🙂

Love this poem ! The bell curve ruled my life when I was teaching.

thank you lifecameos and thanks for stopping by 🙂 I’m sure that old bell curve rules a few peoples lives!

lovely , you red my mind :)))

thanks Ben 😊

read!!!

🙂

excellent and if there were such a thing as really normal, why would you want to be exactly that anyway, it would surely be boring….

very boring indeed Juliet 😉

Brilliant! 😀

“Do you know what happens when bell curves

meet for a drink on Friday night?” – hahaha – they morph into very strange shapes

😉 hahaha indeedy

I totally agree. I would like to know who invented this strange way of measuring normalcy. 🙂

thanks Renee 😀 It does have statistical uses, but not so much social uses, I suppose.
