The Red-tailed Black Cockatoo visit our town every year for a few months in summer.
It’s Autumn now (though you would hardly have known it until a couple of days ago – average temperature of about 26 degrees celcius in the middle of the day – it is just starting to cool down at night now). Now these beautiful cockatoos have gone elsewhere – if you know whereabouts, tell me ๐
Here are some photos Andrew took a couple of months back. These birds are very smart and not too keen on humans (for good reason), so gettingย a close-up shot is very difficult and those super duper lens are way too expensive ๐ฆ
four black cockatoos means four days rain! i would see them where i used to live, i miss their squaaaaalk!
Hey, breathenoah – they do have the most raucous of squarks (you can buy a soft toy Red-tailed black cockatoo from the Australian Geographic shop – and when you squeeze it, you hear the squark – haha – made to annoy parents ๐ ).
There are definitely not here is SoCal. ๐
No Charles – strictly Australia only ๐ but I am sure you have your own wonderful birdlife over there.
They look lovely, but we have quite a few squaakers here and don’t need more. We could do with more songbirds though. Beautiful pics Andrew!
I’ll pass on your words adeeyoyo ๐
what handsome birds, those tails are amazing!
They are an amazing sight Crafty Green Poet and they fly such amazing distances (huge wingspan).
There sure are some beautiful birds in Australia!
We do have some mighty fine birds – especially our parrots Aletha ๐
I love them. I haven’t seen any in the good old Sydney urban jungle but we do see the sulphur crested guys a lot. Wow. What a sight. Makes me so happy just looking at the photos – I can’t imagine what it would be like to see them for real!
I love Sulphur-crested cockatoos Selma (though farmers aren’t too keen on them)! I was amazed and felt priviledged, the first time I saw them, and ever since ๐
Such beautiful birds … and I love those photos!! (those extra special lenses are just WAY to expensive for me to justify too).
Yes, I nearly died when I saw the prices! Maybe second hand would be the way to go, but then you couldn’t tell what condition they were in.
