summer holidays

School holidays have begun and in Australia that means the beginning of a hot, humid summer, cricket, swimming, watermelon and stone fruit, and Christmas around the corner (my apologies to my Northern friends who are freezing their butts off!). Here is a little poem to suit my mood πŸ™‚

summer holidays

I’m cool back
jellyfish floating
on the coral sea
weightless drifting
problems shifting
away with scant clouds
swaying with the jazz scat
of almost waves
sun through blood orange eyelids
warming in the no-where to go

    1. Haha – you coming over hey! Well it is part tradional (turkey and ham) and part Aussie (garlic prawns on the BBQ and icecream cake) – the kids are working on the menu, so there is a surprise element as well πŸ˜‰

  1. A lovely meditation here Gabrielle. Makes me feel like doing so many things at once. Going for a swim. Sitting down and just closing my eyes to listen. Writing poetry. I suppose that’s the definition of inspirational. Thank you.

    1. That’s a lovely comment Alec and I suppose it is a type of meditation – floating is very meditative – I am very happy to inspire you to any of those activities (or all of the above – haha).

  2. I’m going to read this and cry when we are hammered by the fifteen centimeters of snow we are supposed to get tonight. Then, I’m going to read it again and close my eyes and pretend that snow doesn’t exist. Ah, good old fashioned denial. By the way, I loved the visual from the lines took, and I loved how it made me feel as if I were floating in the warmest sea.

  3. how fabulously different Australian life is — we are freezing and think Christmas is all about being cold and you are celebrating all this warmth and blueness!

That’s quite a different species of Christmas tree!

  4. Beautiful … you’ve beautifully captured the very essence of summer! (and managed to make me feel less negatively about the horrible heat and humidity). πŸ™‚
