Jamie Oliver’s Best Friends on the Menu
Breakfast
Cream softens up bitter coffee
while bacon sizzles with eggs over easy.
Lunch
Beer battered fish cosies up to chunky chips,
reading the latest news, undercover, waiting
for salt and vinegar to cut in, with their usual
acerbic wit and biting analysis of current affairs.
Afternoon Tea
Cream takes the edge off the tart
strawberries, creating quite a stir.
Dinner
Will you be a lamb and pass me
the salt and pepper, said Rosemary,
my spaghetti and meatballs
are in need of a little seasoning.
Tomato and basil were side dished,
despite their fresh faced exuberance,
but made a colourful display.
After Dinner
Red wine with cheese platter,
having a natter.

Clever!
I had to look twice, haha! Nice one, Gabe. Very sharp of you and I like:
Will you be a lamb and pass me
the salt and pepper, said Rosemary,
my spaghetti and meatballs
are in need of a little seasoning.
Also the last 2 lines!
Thanks adeeyoyo – lamb and rosemary, best friends
Ah…indeed very clever!
Thanks slpmartin
Loved this, Gabrielle: luscious
Thanks Kate. It made Tessa (who was watching me write it) and I very hungry, so we had to get fish and chips for dinner (covered in salt and vinegar of course)
buon apetito!
Funny how I can see illustrations for your poems!
You should try Gabrielle, to doodle your poems.
(I did try poetry…)
I should try to do something on the tablet (if I could only work out how to download etc.,). I have done a drawing or two before Benedicte – not with much success but it was fun http://gabriellebryden.wordpress.com/2010/05/03/tipota-and-the-lemon-tree/ and I vaguely remember a funny looking emu called Ebeth – hahaha. I wish you were here with me Benedicte, we would have a lot of fun drawing and writing
I remember both drawings (not attempt!) and they were good.
you draw, I will cheer…and next time you have a poem contest, I will participate:)
We’ll see
Very clever
Thanks Jane (and tasty I hope – haha)
I love the idea of the fish reading the news… such a great take on it! And the meatballs in need of a little seasoning made me giggle. It’s wonderfully cheeky!!!
haha – well if you are wrapped up in newspaper, you may as well read the thing
I need a cockney to read this poem. Thanks Graham.
Clever you, very witty Gabrielle – you ought to send it to his Cheffy self, pretty sure it would be appreciated
Haha – I think I will bandsmoke
thankyou
Lubbly jubbly. Very clever, indeed. I love Jamie Oliver. It’s kind of like a crush but not quite – just a sort of affection. I am, after all, old enough to be his much older sister (ahem.) I love the fresh faced exuberance of the tomato and basil. Just like Jamie. Awesome!
‘lubbly jubbly’ would make a good title Selma – haha – or maybe I should have called it ‘The Naked Chef’s best friends on the menu’ – haha (though he has outgrown that title a bit). I am fond of Jamie Oliver as well (seems like I have ‘known’ him for years) – very impressed at the way he has changed over the years to keep the variety flowing and his work with disenfranchised youth and fighting obesity (the serious side of Jamie).
A very tasty piece! Love it!
It made me hungry
thanks for stopping by Broken Biro
hahaha! I read this three times and each time my smile got wider
Very funny and very clever, Gabe – a delicious irreverence
haha – thanks bluebee for rereading – you will know now that I take nothing seriously
and am reverence deficited!
Just wonderful! Although now I’m kind of hungry… but at least you leave me with a smile on my face.
It does make you hungry Tracey – haha – thanks
what delicious writing!
yum, yum – thanks Aletha
